Cima
da Conegliano. A Poet of Landscape
Conegliano,
Palazzo Sarcinelli
When
you come to drive over the Prosecco Hills a lovable flavour of
tranquility
and peace softly touches your senses. The gentle slopes surrounding the
scenery
stun you with their harmonious movement dividing earth and sky.
Cima da Conegliano used to paint this scenery, dotted with fortress and
ruins, in
the background of his canvases.
The Prosecco Route is easy to follow and well signed. Along your way
you will
find typical inn serving fresh dishes of the Venetian tradition
(asparagi, radicchio,
sopressa,…) and wine cellar offering sparkling wine.
Driving toward the small town of Collalto you stop under the medieval
tower
which appears in many paintings by Cima.
Carrying on along these hill streets, surrounded by a wonderful nature
of colours
and spring fragrances, you keep driving until Susegana, a little village
famous for its castle: the Castello di San Salvatore can be observed,
in an
idealised way just as Cima likes, in the Madonna with the Orange Tree
in the
Gallerie dell’Accademia of Venice.
By venturing into this charming area, you can paint your own experience
through your eyes and make it a beautiful memory.
