Villa Sandi, a splendid Palladian-style villa dating back to 1622, is located in a renowned winemaking area in the heart of the Province of Treviso. The villa represents the combination between art and agriculture which characterized the Venetian landscape of past centuries.
The Moretti Polegato family, owner of the villa, have a long-standing grape growing tradition which reflects the culture and passion of the whole area for fine wines.
Indeed, for generations the Moretti Polegato family have handed down from father to son the ancient tradition of wine making and today they promote grape growing, a traditional cultivation in the area on modern basis.
The Villa is nowadays the headquarters of Villa Sandi winery.
Giancarlo Moretti Polegato currently manages the company and carries on the family tradition, combining innovation and research with respect and love for tradition and territory.
Three centuries-old underground cellars stretch for over 1,5 km. under the villa and create the perfect environment for wine aging, thanks to their natural characteristic of keeping humidity and temperature at a constant level. Here ``Opere Trevigiane``, a Classical Method Sparkling wine, is stored to refine while the two barrel rooms host the casks in which Villa Sandi Premium wines are aged.
Vineyards have characterized for centuries the landscape of the Treviso area and the Villa Sandi Estates are indeed located close to and in the heart of Valdobbiadene hills.
Close to the villa, the Villa Sandi Estate dedicated to the cultivation of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot. On this Estate the grapes for the Great Reserves Marinali Rosso, C˛rpore and Filio are also grown.
In Valdobbiadene, heart of Valdobbiadene Prosecco, another Villa Sandi Estate is to be found.
The hilly area between the towns of Valdobbiadene and Conegliano, 60 kilometres north of Venice, is the traditional home of Prosecco. Viticulture is an ancient art in the Prosecco area where a centuries-old vine growing and wine making culture has shaped the landscape and affected the lifestyle of inhabitants. The passion for this art has resulted in even the most inaccessible parts being cultivated. The vineyards are cared for like gardens, with work done by hand using timeless techniques and materials.
The synergy between man, vine and territory, has made Prosecco one of the most appreciated and well-known wines in the world.
A special quality Prosecco is produced from the grapes grown in a micro zone called Cartizze, in Valdobbiadene.
Precious vineyards divided among 140 owners in an area of only 106.8 hectares.
Villa Sandi owns an estate called ``La Rivetta``, in the middle of this micro area blessed with a gentle microclimate and ancient fertile soil. The estate fully benefits from this special and perfect combination of geo-climatic features, which allows a wine with unique characteristics to be produced awarded with Tre Bicchieri Gambero Rosso 2010.
The expertise of Villa Sandi oenologists and technicians is shared with a group of selected grape growers whose production is monitored and controlled by Villa Sandi in order to ensure the high quality standards of Villa Sandi DOCG wines are well maintained.
For over 15 years the Villa Sandi and the underground cellars have been opened to the public for free guided tours. More and more lovers of art, history, landscape and fine wine include Villa Sandi in their itinerary.
After visiting the winery, the discovery of territory and its products can continue in the Locanda Sandi in Valdobbiadene with the typical dishes of the Venetian countryside and six charming rooms.
