The road of the Prosecco wine and the Piave River - Among the vineyards

A land renowned for its production of excellent wines since antiquity, the hills that extend from Conegliano to Valdobbiadene nourish the vines of Prosecco scattered over the hillsides with their gentle scenery strewn with old parish churches and abbeys.

The so-called "Prosecco road" leaves Conegliano passing through Rua di Feletto, that grew around the old Camaldolese Monastery of S. Maria Assunta. The road continues through S. Pietro di Feletto where you can visit the old medieval Pieve (parish church from the twelfth century) with its Romanesque bell-tower, frescoes of the thirteenth century and "Madonna with Babe and Saints" of the fifteenth century.

The next stop is Refrontolo, which, as well as its Prosecco, cultivates an excellent Marzemino (red dessert wine). Taking the lane in front of the church you will come to the medieval Molinetto della Croda*, a picturesque mill situated among century old trees.

* Il Molinetto della Croda
The Molinetto della Croda, an ancient mill, is one of the most picturesque spots of the Marca Trevigiana.
In nearly four century of history it has inspired several artists and charmed thousand of visitors.
The Molinetto is a typical example of 17th century rural architecture. The original foundations lay on the bare rock of the mountain, the "croda", hence the name of Molinetto della Croda.
The mill stopped working in 1953.
It has been recently restored with great care and attention so as to bring back its originals features.

The road proceeds onto Pieve di Soligo, Solighetto (where there is a small museum dedicated to the opera singer Toti Dal Monte at Villa Brandolin), Farra di Soligo, and finally Valdobbiadene, known mainly for its production of Prosecco, and the superior quality called Cartizze.

On the way back, leaving the Prosecco road, you can travel along the Piave River, touching places connected with World War I. From Vidor, there is a view onto Grave di Ciano, and proceeding you will reach Moriago della Battaglia, where you can admire an altarpiece by Pordenone in the town`s church before descending to the Nature Reserve at the Island of the Dead on the Piave River.

The next stop is Collalto, with the remains of the Castle dated to 1110, destroyed by the Trevisans in the fourteenth century, and then to the Castle of S. Salvatore at Susegana (fourteenth century), one of the largest and most well preserved fortification systems in Italy.
